For those of you not in the know the Palm Pre is the latest offering from Palm and was announced at CES in January 2009.

The Pre is one of many new phones that appears to be targeting the iPhone market.

Most Smartphones from the past few years have either used Symbian or Windows Mobile, however over the last year we have also seen Google’s Android released with the only current handset using this OS being the G1.

Palm have decided to develop a new OS of their own called webOS. Palm have decided to try and take a new approach to the OS and the core of the OS is based on Linux, however developers will not have access to the core. Instead all application will be developed based on web standards and use technologies such as XHTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

The Pre will also make extensive use of cloud based services mean with one of the most talked about features “Synergy” synching your contacts with Palms Servers (the cloud) and the ability to synch the contacts from multiple sources such as Facebook or Outlook.

Sprint is going to be the exclusive carrier partner for the Palm Pre and a GSM version is expected for Europe, however no carrier has been declared as of yet.
