Palm Pre on sale June 6th for $200 (US Only)

Great news for people living in the US. It has been officially announced that the Palm Pre will be available on June 6th and will cost $199.99 after $100 mail-rebate and 2-year contract.

The phone will go on sale nationwide (US) at Sprint stores, Best Buy, Radio Shack, and select Wal-Mart stores. The Pre will be available under Sprint’s Everything Data or Business Essentials with Messaging and Data plans.

Accessories include the optional $69.99 Touchstone charging dock kit that includes the $49.99 dock and $19.99 Pre back cover.

Quite a clever move by Palm as just 2 days later is the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference!

Now the question is when will us Brits get the Pre? I’m guessing it could be several more months as the US version is EVDO only so they need to release a separate GSM version!

Rumour: Palm Pre coming to O2?

According to Palm Info Center Numerous Spanish media outlets are reporting today that Telefónica’s Movistar will exclusively offer the Palm Pre in Spain, UK and Latin America. The Spanish newspaper Expansion reports (Translated) that Telefónica will offer the Pre in Spain "before summer."

More interestingly the paper also reports that Telefónica’s subsidiary brand O2, will exclusively market the Pre in the UK, beating out its rival Vodafone.

This would seem like a bit of a drastic move on O2s behalf as they will have invested a large amount of money to secure the Palm contract only to have it compete with its golden boy the iPhone. However I guess if they feel the Palm Pre is good enough that people will ditch O2 then I guess it would be worth it.

I’m still betting that it will be Vodafone that wins the contract.

Ok well we know most of the Palm Pre’s specification anyway but print just updated their site with the Palm Pre’s specs and it does include some nice bits of information.

The 2 main features to note is the inclusion of MMS and the ability to use the phone as a modem via Bluetooth or USB tethering.

USB tethering is quite important as it pisses me right off when I am travelling and want to connect to the net via my phone and I am unable to do so!

PreCentral also pointed out the following about the storage:

7.4GB will actually be available from the 8GB included, possibly implying the size of the OS is somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 megs or so (though it’s still unclear what the relationship between the 8GB of storage and RAM will be, and whether or not the Pre will use Program Memory RAM/Storage ROM/Mass Storage like Windows Mobile or have a simpler RAM/Storage setup like other phones).
